With our location-based virtual reality game Abyss: Vault, we explored how to make virtual spaces feel much larger than the six by six metre area that players walk through in real life. The team tested techniques that reshape the environment as players move, and also experimented with spatial sound to support the illusion of scale. In the video below, Games and Experiences designer Benji Agcal tests early prototypes in a reconfigurable play space to study how these methods influence player perception.
