Interactive AR Mural (2021)

We the West

description

As part of “Outside the Lines: Court Mural Project”, Hololabs created an interactive augmented reality experience with mural artist Samantha Paul and the We the West Basketball Festival. The 20’ x 40’ mural was mounted on the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre during the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, which took place in Victoria, British Columbia from June 29 -July 4th, 2021. Spectators attending the games were able to scan QR codes to launch the experience with their Facebook or Instagram apps, and then experience the awe as the mural came to life with 3D animation. With a bit of exploration, participants could discover several hidden puzzles and whimsical animations hidden within the mural, with thematic content related to basketball and the Pacific Northwest.

Look for the mural at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in 2021 and other locations around Victoria in the years to come. However, if you would like to try the experience now, you can follow the steps below.

Try the experience

Step 1: Scan one of the QR codes with your phone to launch the experience (or tap the code if you’re on your device).

Step 2: Click the mural below to open it fullscreen on your computer monitor.

Step 3: Point your phone at the mural, and watch it come to life! Tap on the shapes in the mural to interact and play with it.
