Interactive Mural - (2022)

The Chemainus Festival of Murals Society curates and maintains dozens of murals spread throughout their town, providing an artistic and historic experience for visitors. Hololabs was approached to see if we could help enrich the guest experience through emerging technology, and as a proof of concept we chose Mural 03 - “Steam Train on Bridge Over Chemainus River” and sought to bring this mural to life with fully-animated 3D graphics, animation, and sound effects.

The main focus of this mural is the locomotive, an 80-ton Porter 2-6-2T, which we re-created and animated in 3D so we could have it magically appear and travel across the scene. We also added a new interactive element in the form of a sign post that provides some additional historic information about the piece and the local area.
